Investigating for wisdom through the gaze, reflections of given decisions and chosen directions find shape in Melda Kamhi Kosif’s sculpture, video installation and mix media dimensioned oil painting portraits. While the artist asks; ‘As the directions you have taken are reflected on the lines of your face, with which expression will you be looking in life?’, she shares recent works in which she focuses on wise glances shaped by a life’s experience and resuming one’s existence.

Melda Kamhi Kosif's first solo exhibition Moments can be seen between 29.10-02.11.15 at  at The Sofa Hotel Istanbul

In the search of a common ground between their practice’s contrasted nature, both siblings are pushing their approach to a level in which, merging from their initial dimensions, the works gain solid yet transient bodily presence. Experimenting with traditional and media practices and with a wide range of textural and sculptural materials-glass, acrylic, wood, fabric, mirrors, mud and flat screens- the two artists’ collaboration questions the perceptive and the perceived world, the relation between the observer and the observed, and the familiarity and strangeness of the gaze. through attempts at physicality, the original pieces are dissolving inside transparent and organic surfaces, and as they emerge to a tangible realm, they create a physical yet abstract narrative within the gallery space.
